"I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do." Helen Keller
About Me
- Fran Richardson
- Welcome to my blog!I'm a teacher of fourth graders in a beautiful, small, rural town. I moved here a few years ago, but I have taught 19 of my 24 years in this same small town that is now my home. My experience is in teaching second, third, and fourth grades with one year in sixth grade. I am always reading, learning, and reflecting on what goes on in my classroom. I love the work that I do with the parents, my fellow teachers, and most all-my students.I hope you will enjoy reading my blog.

Thoughtful Thursday: Planning Ahead
Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines a cornerstone as
- the basis
- a bedrock
- a foundation
- the groundwork
- the root
- the underpinning
- the keystone
The keystone in old days was set to give support and LOCK OTHER THINGS INTO PLACE.
This book and Angela Watson’s website are being exactly what is needed to do that in a classroom. To me, it’s the manual that should be passed out before student teaching or at least by graduation from any early childhood or elementary teaching program. Why? It’s the common sense but nobody told you stuff that everybody needs!Practical, set-by-step, but never in a talking down tone, these resources help set up procedures and routines such as working together, sharpening pencils, and paperwork. ( If you think you don’t need a procedure for doing these things, you are in for a HUGE surprise! I’m just sayin’…)
It’s worth your while to get these “how we do things here in my room” procedures in your mind before the kids arrive, or as we say around here “The wheels are gonna come off that bus.”![]()
Look here for some great ideas for all those small details, organizing, and classroom set-up:
